To draw this cartoon Puppy in a Christmas Stocking step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Draw two curved lines next to each other for the cartoon Christmas puppy's eyes. The lines should look like the letter C. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shapes right, darken the lines and make them thicker. Draw the eye on the right the same way. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape right. This eye should be a little bit smaller than the first one because of the way the puppy dog's head will be turned. When you get the size and shapes right, darken the line and make it thicker. Pay attention to the space between the eyes. Don't draw them too close to each other.

Step 2: Under each curved line, draw a small circle for the irises. Place the Christmas puppy's iris on the left close to the middle under the curved line. Place the iris on the right close to the left side under the curved line.

Step 3: Inside each iris, on the top, left side, draw a tiny circle for highlights. In the middle of each iris, draw a small circle and shade them in for the puppy dog's pupils. Don't overlap the tiny highlight circles as you shade the pupils. Draw another tiny circle inside each iris, on the lower, right side for more highlights.

Step 4: Below the cartoon Christmas puppy's eyes, near the middle, draw a small oval on its side for the nose. Inside the nose, draw a smaller, thinner oval for a highlight on the nose. Shade the inside of the dog's nose but don't overlap the highlight oval.

Step 5: Make a small mark under the nose to indicate where the bottom of the head will be. Extend the right side of the mark farther right and curve it up next to the eye for the first cheek. Extend the left side too and curve the line upward for the Christmas puppy's other cheek. The left side should be farther from the eye. Sketch lightly at first and only darken the lines when you get the shape right.

Step 6: Extend the right side of the head up and then curve the line to the right to create the rest of the head. The cartoon puppy's head is tilted down slightly, so the top part should be very big and bulbous. Pay attention to how high above the eyes the top of the head is. Don't close off the shape on the left side. If you'd like, you can first make a mark above the eyes to indicate how tall the head should be and then draw the side.

Step 7: On the top, left side of the cartoon Christmas puppy's head, draw a curved line for the first part of the curved ear. Next to it, draw a line down toward the cheek and then curve it back up for the rest of the ear. The bottom of the ear should be similar to a giant, curved letter V.

Step 8: On the right side of the head, draw a similar long, curved shape for the other ear. Make this ear thinner. Inside the Christmas puppy's head, near the top, draw three small, spike-like shapes for a tuft of fur.

Step 9: On the lower, left side of the head, draw a big U-shaped line for the puppy dog's first paw. Curve the sides of the shape a bit. At the bottom, draw two short, curved lines for the toes. On the right, draw another U-shaped line for the other paw. Make it a bit smaller than the first paw. Curve the sides of the shape. At the bottom, draw two short, curved lines for the toes.

Step 10: On top of the puppy's ear on the left, draw a long, curved line for the first part of the Christmas bow. To the right, draw a shorter, curved line for the bow's knot. To the right, draw a tall, curved line for the other side of the bow. Bend the outer edges for creases.

Step 11: Below the cartoon puppy dog's head and between the paws, draw three small circles for holly berries. Below the berries, draw a vertical line for the first part of a holly leaf. On either side of the line, draw curved/angled lines for the rest of the leaf. Add another leaf on the left side the same way but tilt the leaf a little bit. Add a third leaf on the right side using the same technique but tilt the leaf the other way.

Step 12: Draw a circle that's made up of short, angled strokes around the head for the fluffy top part of the Christmas stocking. Draw the fluffy circle in sections around the head and don't overlap any of the previous line work. The shape doesn't have to be perfect. Just pay attention to where the angled lines start and end. The right side of the shape should be closer to the puppy's head than the left side.

Step 13: On the lower, left side, draw a vertical line with a curved line under it for the first part of the stocking. On the right side, draw a shorter vertical line with a longer, curved line under it that stretches far to the right. Connect the lines at the bottom using a long, wavy, horizontal line to complete the shape of the Christmas stocking. The right side should be lower. Sketch lightly at first and only darken the lines when you get the shape right.

Step 14: Go over the lines with a pen or marker to make your cartoon Christmas puppy drawing permanent. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your Christmas puppy drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use red for the bow, the berries and the lower half of the stocking. Use yellow to outline the bottoms of the eyes and color the rest of the puppy dog's body yellow. For the eyes, use dark blue at the top and light blue at the bottom to give them a rounder look. Use green for the holly leaves. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
