To draw this cartoon Triceratops step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace.

For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Draw a small, curved line that's similar to the letter C for this cartoon triceratops' eye. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shape right, darken the line and make it thicker for the eyelashes. The shape should be like a half-circle minus the bottom. Make the tips pointy.

Step 2: Under the eye, near the left, draw a small circle for the iris. In the middle of the iris, draw a smaller circle and shade it in for this cute dinosaur's pupil.

Step 3: On either side of the pupil, draw a tiny circle for highlights. You can draw only one circle if you'd like. Above the eye, draw a long, curved line for the triceratops' thick brow.

Step 4: Below the triceratops' eye, lightly sketch a line that curves to the right for the smile. Darken the line when you get the shape and size right. Add a shorter line on the left side for a smile line. On the right tip of the line, draw a small, triangular shape for the horn on the muzzle. Don't draw the dinosaur's horn too big. Curve the sides and corners. Add a short line to the left of it for the top of the muzzle.

Step 5: On top of the muzzle, draw a line that curves up and to the left for the front part of the chibi triceratops' head. Draw this line higher than the brow. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape right. Under the mouth, draw a short, curved line for the bottom of the head. Inside the muzzle, to the left of the horn, draw a small circle with a curved line on top of it for the nostril.

Step 6: Starting at the top of the dinosaur's head, draw a series of short, curved lines for the bony frill behind the head. The triceratops frill is basically a big half-circle that's made up of short, curved lines. Pay attention to how big and wide the frill is. The bottom should curve up a bit toward the eye.

Step 7: Draw three small lines spread out within the frill for extra detail on the bony texture. To the right of the brow, draw a small, triangular shape for the first horn. Curve the sides and corners. To the right of the triceratops' head, draw another small, triangular shape for the horn on the other side.

Step 8: Under the head, draw a short line that curves to the left for the front part of the dinosaur's body. To the left of the chest, draw two short, vertical lines for the first front leg. Make the top of the leg wider than the bottom. Close off the shape at the bottom with a short line.

Step 9: To the left of the front leg, draw a curved, horizontal line for the bottom of the triceratops' body. To the left, draw two very long, sloping, vertical lines for the hind leg. This leg should be very wide at the top. The bottom of the leg should be narrow. Close off the shape at the bottom with a short line.

Step 10: To the right of the hind leg, draw a small, rectangular shape for the hind leg on the other side of the dinosaur's body. To the right of the front leg, draw an angled line that's similar to a backward letter L for the triceratops' front leg on the other side.

Step 11: To the left of the frill, draw a long, horizontal line that curves down a bit for the top part of this cute little dinosaur's body and tail. On the left side, draw a long line that slopes down toward the hind leg for the bottom edge of the triceratops' tail.

Step 12: Go over the lines with a pen or marker to make your cartoon triceratops drawing permanent. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your chibi triceratops drawing any way you'd like, using color pencils markers or crayons! For this look, draw thin, curved shapes using brown on the body, frill and legs for stripes. Using yellow-orange, draw an outline below the eye, as well as on the bottom of the head and body. Don't overlap the stripes. Leave the tips of the triceratops' frill and horns blank. Color the top part. Don't overlap the stripes. Leave the tips of the frill and horns blank. Use light yellow for the rest of the body, the horns and frill. Use dark green for the top of the dinosaur's eye and light green for the bottom. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
