Written step-by-step video tutorial:
For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Lightly sketch two small ovals for the poodle's eyes. Pay attention to the distance between the eyes. Don't place them too close together. When you get the position and shapes of the eyes right, darken the lines. Inside each eye, draw a couple of tiny circles for highlights. Shade the cartoon dog's eyes but don't overlap the tiny highlight circles. The eye on the left should be slightly smaller because of the way the head will be turned.

Step 2: Below the eye on the left, draw another small oval for the dog's nose. The oval for the nose should be slightly bigger than the ovals for the eyes, and it should be turned on its side. Inside the nose, near the top, draw a thinner oval for a highlight. Shade the poodle's nose but don't overlap the thin highlight oval.

Step 3: To the left of the eyes, draw a short, vertical line for the side of the poodle's head. To the left of the nose, draw a curved, C-shaped line for the cheek. Extend the bottom line toward the right to create the bottom edge of the dog's head.

Step 4: Above the eyes, draw three curved, horizontal lines for the bottom edge of the fluffy fur on the head. Extend these curved lines farther to the right than the bottom edge of the cartoon poodle's head.

Step 5: To the right of the face, draw a tall shape that's made up of curved lines for the fluffy ear. First draw a few short, curved, vertical lines for the sides of the poodle's ear. Then close off the shape of the ear at the bottom using a curved, horizontal line.

Step 6: Draw a big dome-like shape at the top for the rest of the poodle's fluffy head. This dome-like shape should be made up of smaller, curved lines to represent the dog's fluffy fur. Pay attention to how high up the top edge of the head is. Don't draw it too low. The right side of the head should end at the top of the ear.

Step 7: Below the head, draw a semi-circle that's made up of small, curved lines for the fluffy front part of the dog's body. Don't make the body bigger than the head. You can curve the small lines that make up the semi-circle more.

Step 8: Under the body, on the right side, draw two short lines for the bare top part of the first leg. Below that, draw a small oval for the fluffy fur on the bottom half of the poodle's leg. Draw another small oval at the bottom for the paw. Add two short lines inside for the dog's toes.

Step 9: To the left, draw the cartoon poodle dog's other front leg the same way, except the right side will be behind the first leg. Use two small ovals for the fur and the paw at the bottom. Don't forget the lines for the toes.

Step 10: To the right of the poodle's fluffy chest, draw a sloping line for the underside of the bare body. To the right of the ear, draw a line that curves downward for the top part of the bare body. On the bottom, left side of the head, draw a curved line for the dog's other ear peeking from behind.

Step 11: To the right of the underside of the body, draw a curved line for the bare top part of the cartoon poodle dog's first hind leg. Below that, draw a small oval for the fluffy bottom part of the hind leg. To the right, draw another short, curved line for the other side of the bare top part of the leg. At the very bottom, draw another small oval for the paw. Add two short lines inside for the toes.

Step 12: To the left, draw a set of similar shapes for the other hind leg. Draw two ovals at the bottom for the fur and the paw, as well as a curved line at the top for the bare leg. Part of the poodle's leg is hidden so don't draw the right side. Add the toes inside the paw too.

Step 13: On the top, right side of the body, draw two short lines for the bottom of the tail. On top of that, draw a small circle for the fluffy fur on the tip of the poodle dog's tail.

Step 14: Go over the lines with a pen or marker to make your poodle drawing permanent. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your cartoon poodle dog drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use light brown or peach for the furless parts of the dog's body. Use a bit of yellow on the underside of the fur for shadows. Don't forget to pause the video to draw to your own pace.
