Below you can watch a Narrated step-by-step video tutorial:
For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Start by drawing a circle as a guide for the front part of the markhor's body. To draw the circle, first make four marks to determine its height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a circular object like a coin or a lid. For a more detailed guide on the different ways to draw a circle check out this tutorial: Four simple ways to draw a circle.

Step 2: To the right, draw another circle the same way as a guide for the back portion of the markhor's body. This circle should be a little bit smaller than the first circle. The edges of the two circles should touch.

Step 3: On the top, left side, draw yet another circle as a guide for the markhor's head. Use the four-marks method to draw this circle too. This circle should be about one-fifth the size of the first circle. Don't place this circle too far away from the body, otherwise the neck will be too long.

Step 4: Draw a curved, horizontal line across the head as a construction guide to help you place the markhor's facial features later. Draw a short, curved, vertical line on the top, left side for another guide. On the lower, left side of the head, draw a curved line that's similar in shape to a tilted letter V as a guide for the muzzle.

Step 5: On top of the head, draw two long, straight lines as guides for the markhor's horns. Pay attention to how long these lines are in relation to the head. The longer you draw these lines, the bigger the horns will be. The line on the right should tilt more than the line on the left. Draw a couple of small arcs on the sides of the head as guides for the ears.

Step 6: Under the first circle, draw two long, vertical lines as guides for the markhor's front legs. Pay attention to how long these lines are in relation to the body. Bend the lines at the bottom slightly to the left for the feet.

Step 7: Under the circle on the right, draw two long, angled lines as guides for the markhor's hind legs. These line should bend at the top, the middle and the botom to indicate the joints. Don't place these lines too far apart.

Step 8: Draw two short lines that connect the circles on the left as a guide for the markhor's neck. Connect the circles in the middle using two long lines to complete the guide for the torso. On the right side, draw a short, curved line as a guide for the tail.

That's it for the guides! From this point on, press down harder with your pencil for a more defined drawing.

Step 9: Inside the head, on top of the horizontal guide, lightly sketch a small oval for the markhor's eye. When you get the size and position of the eye right, darken the shape. Make the sides pointier as you darken the shape for the corners of the eye. Add a curved line at the top for the eyelashes. Inside the eye, off to the side, draw a tiny circe for a highlight. In the middle of the eye, draw a tiny oval and shade it in for the pupil. Draw a short, curved line above and below the eye for some wrinkles.

Step 10: Near the bottom of the muzzle, lightly sketch a small curved shape for the nose. When you get the shape right, darken the lines but make the sides pointier so that it's more similar to a triangle. Add a couple of curved lines on the sides and shade them in for the pupils.

Step 11: Use the initial triangular line on the lower, left side as a guide to draw the markhor's muzzle. Darken the sides of the guide but make the shape more wavy at the top and use short strokes at the bottom for fur. Near the bottom of the guide draw a line that curves to the right for the mouth. Add short strokes around the mouth for fur.

Step 12: Use the long ling on the top, right side of the head as a guide to draw the base of the markor's horn. Draw the shape of the base around the bottom part of the guide line. This shape should be similar to a diamond that's tilted. Use short strokes along the bottom for fur. The bottom of the horn should be narrow and it shoud be inside the head. The top of the horn should be wide and curved.

Step 13: Draw the middle section of the markhor's horn around the guide line. This shape should be similar to an hourglass. Use a couple of angled lines on the right side and a wavier line for the left side. The top part of this section should be pretty flat.

Step 14: Finish drawing the top section of the markhor's horn around the top part of the guide line. This section is made up of smaller curved lines for the sides of the horn. The top should be thin and pointy. Pay attention to how the lines overlap each other to create the corkscrew shape of the horn.

Step 15: Use the line on the left as a guide to draw the markhor's other horn the same way. Start by drawing the shape of the base. The base of this horn should be triangular and it should be similar to an upside-down letter V. Use short strokes at the bottom for fur. Above that, draw the middle section of the horn. The right edge of this section should be similar to the letter Y. The left edge should be made up of a couple of angled lines.

Step 16: Close off the middle section of the markhor's horn using a long curved line. On top of that, draw the tip of the horn around the rest of the guide line. Use a couple of curved lines for the right side and more angular lines on the left side. Make the tip of the horn thin and pointy.

Step 17: Use the arcs on the sides as guides to draw the markhor's ears. Darken the arcs but make the shape a bit pointier at the top. Stretch the bottom part of the ear on the right farther inside the head. Use a few short, curved lines inside the shapes of the ears for the openings and fur.

Step 18: Below the ear on the left, draw and angled line along the shape of the initial circle for the side of the markhor's head. Draw a series of short strokes along the bottom edge of the guides for the base of the beard-like fur. Farther down below the head, draw longer strokes for the bottom tips of the beard. Curve the path of these strokes up toward the ear on the right. Add a few more short strokes inside the head to give the head more structure and fur detail.

Step 19: Use the line on the far left as a guide to draw the markhor's first front leg. Follow the path of the guide and lightly sketch the shape of the leg around it. The top part of the shape should be wide and the bottom narrow. Angle the bottom part to the left for the foot. When you get the shape of the leg right, darken the lines. Use short strokes at the top for fur and smoother strokes at the bottom. The bottom part of the foot should be flat for the hoof. Add a few short strokes to the top of the hoof for fur.

Step 20: Use the angled line on the far right side as a guide to draw the markhors's first hind leg. Follow the path of the guide and lightly sketch the shape of the leg around it. The top of the hind leg should be wide and the bottom art narrow. Curve the lines where the guide bends to create the joints. When you get the shape right, darken the lines. Use short strokes as you darken the top of the leg for the longer fur found there. Angle the bottom part of the shape to the left to create the foot. Make the bottom part flat for the hoof.

Step 21: Use the remaining angled lines under the body as guides to draw the markhor's other legs the same way. Draw the shapes of the legs around the guide. Curve the shapes where the guides bend for the joints. A big portion of these legs will be hidden behind the first pair of legs. Bend the shapes toward the left at the bottom for the hooves. Use short strokes along the top for the fur.

Step 22: Use the remaining lines and shapes as guides to draw the rest of the markhor's body. Darken the outer edges of the guides at the top to create the back and neck. Add a series of long strokes on the bottom, left side for the long, mane-like fur on the neck. Draw a few more strokes within the shape of the neck to emphasize the mane. Use shorter strokes along the underside of the body. Draw the tail around the short, curved line on the right side.

Step 23: For a cleaner look, erase as much as you can of the initial guide lines. Don't worry about erasing all of the guides. It's okay to leave some behind. Re-draw any final sketch lines you may have accidentally erased.

Final Step: Shade your drawing for extra detail. Shade lightly at first and gradually build up to darker values. For light values, push down very lightly on your pencil and push down harder for darker values. As you shade the body, use strokes that go in the general direction of the fur. The strokes on the neck should be vertical, while the strokes on the body should be more horizontal. Use vertical strokes on the horns to give them a rougher texture. Use a darker value throughout the body to create shadows. Pick a light source as you shade so that the shadows are consitent. Here the light source is coming from the top, so most of the shadows are on the underside of the shapes. Use a darker vlaue for the beard, the hooves and the tail. It's a good idea to use reference as you shade for a more accurate depiction of a markhor. Shading can be time-consuming, so be paitent and take breaks. Add a shadow at the bottom using a medium value. This will ground the markhor so that it doesn't appear to be floating.
