To draw this cartoon Golden Retriever Puppy step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below the video. The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.

Step 1: Lightly sketch two small ovals for the cartoon golden retriever's eyes. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. When you get the shapes right, darken the lines. Inside each eye, draw two tiny circles for highlights. Shade in the dog's eyes but don't overlap the tiny highlight circles. The eye on the right should be a tiny bit bigger than the eye on the left.

Step 2: Below the eye on the left, draw a small oval on its side for the dog's nose. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape and position right. Inside draw a smaller oval for highlight. Shade the golden retriever's nose but don't overlap the highlight. The nose should be only slightly bigger than the eyes.

Step 3: Lightly sketch a curved line on the left side for the golden retriever's muzzle. When you get the shape of the line right, darken it. The line should start to the left of the eyes, then curve under the dog's nose and stretch to the right.

Step 4: On the left, lightly sketch a line that curves up high and to the right for the top of the golden retriever's head. When you get the shape right, darken the line. At the top, draw three small, spike-like shapes for fur. Pay attention to how high above the eyes the top of the dog's head is.

Step 5: To the right of the head, draw a big triangular shape for the first ear. The top part of the ear consists of two short, curved lines that slope down to the right a bit. Along the path of the curved lines, draw a couple of small, spike-like shapes for fur. The bottom part of the golden retriever's ear should be similar to a big letter V with a rounded bottom.

Step 6: Below the ear, draw a short, curved line that almost meets with the muzzle for the bottom of the golden retriever's head. To the left of the head, lightly sketch a long, wavy, vertical line for the visible part of the other ear. When you get the shape right, darken the line and add a couple of spike-like shapes at the top for fur.

Step 7: Under the dog's head, draw a line that's made up of short, angled lines that curves to the right for the chest. The golden retriever's furry chest should be made up of tiny V-shaped lines. Vary the sizes of the angled lines a bit.

Step 8: To the right of the chest, draw two long, curved, vertical lines for the first part of the front leg. Close off the shape at the bottom using a short line to complete the golden retriever's first front leg.

Step 9: To the left, draw a shape for the other front leg the same way but make it a little bit smaller. To the right of the first front leg, draw a series of short, V-shaped lines that curve up for the dog's furry underside.

Step 10: To the right of the golden retriever's body, draw two curved lines for the top part of the first hind leg. Notice how high up these curved line are. They should almost meet at the bottom. Below the curved lines, draw a rectangular shape that's similar to the front leg for the lower half of the hind leg.

Step 11: To the left, under the body, draw the lower half of the golden retriever's other hind leg using a couple of short lines.

Step 12: Draw a long, curved line from the hind leg to the head for the back portion of the body. Along the way add a few angled lines for the fur. At the top add a short, curved line for the golden retriever's neck.

Step 13: On the top, right side of the body, draw a long line that slopes up for the top edge of the tail. Draw a series of short, curved lines along the bottom for the lower edge of the golden retriever's furry tail.

Step 14: Go over the lines with a pen or marker to make your cartoon golden retriever drawing permanent. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your cartoon golden retriever drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Lightly add yellow as a base color. Use yellow-orange for the ears, the area around the eyes, the top of the body and the tail. Use light yellow for the dog's muzzle, the chest and the underside of the body. Color lightly at first. Continue to gradually add these colors and blend them by slowly pushing harder.

Coloring like this can be time-consuming, so be patient and take breaks. For an easier drawing, just color the golden retriever's entire body yellow. Use a bit of gray on the dog's opposing hind leg for shadow. Continue to add the color slowly and gradually blend them until you're happy with the result. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw and color at your own pace.
